Thanks to its victory (1-3), on the lawn of Roazhon Park, PSG climbed to third place in Ligue 1. The capital club was reassured after its humiliation at Newcastle.

This Sunday evening, Stade Rennais welcomed Paris Saint-Germain to Roazhon Park, in the closing match of the eighth day of Ligue 1. Luis Enrique chose not to renew the starting lineup which had lost heavily (4-1 ), last Wednesday in Newcastle, in the Champions League. Thus, the Spanish technician reinstated the Portuguese Vitinha into his starting lineup, while Kolo Muani left. On the Breton side, coach Bruno Génésio can count on his entire group. He chose to position Terrier on the bench. In the sixth minute of play, Kalimuendo got rid of Skriniar with a hook before unleashing a powerful shot at the edge of the area which forced Donnarumma to relax to his right.

Shortly after the half-hour mark, Ugarte found Dembélé on the right. The Parisian number 10 displaced Vitinha. The Portuguese curled a superb right-footed shot which lodged in the opposite corner of Mandanda (32nd, 0-1). Absent from the starting lineup on Wednesday evening in the Champions League against Newcastle, Vitinha restored a certain balance to the Rouge et Bleu this Sunday.

A few moments later, the capital club made the break. Hakimi was found at the far post. Free from any marking, the Moroccan international placed a header leaving no chance for the Breton goalkeeper (36th, 0-2). The capital club, very realistic during this first period, returned to the locker room with a two-goal lead. Mbappé had the opportunity to increase the score in stoppage time, but Mandanda diverted his shot for a corner. “It’s only halftime. We lead 2-0 and that’s very good, now we have to win the match”reacted the native of Bondy to the microphone of Prime Video.

Stade Rennais got off to a very good start to the second half, putting significant pressure on their evening visitors. The Breton club was rewarded by reducing the score thanks to Gouiri. Well served by a cross from Blas, the Algerian international deceived Donnarumma with a header (1-2, 56th).

Short-lived joy for the Rennais, since Kolo Muani, who had just come on, gave the capital club a two-goal lead. On his first ball, the former Nantais player got ahead of Theate and opened his left foot to leave Mandanda no chance (1-3, 58th). Kolo Muani scored a new goal a few moments later (62nd). However, this was refused for an offside position by Mbappé at the start of the action. At the end of the match, the Rouge et Noir goalkeeper was decisive on several occasions, allowing his team to avoid penalty.

Building on this victory (1-3) on Breton soil, PSG climbs onto the podium in the ranking. Luis Enrique’s men, who are two points behind the Monegasque leader, are perfectly reassured after their humiliation on Wednesday in Newcastle. As for Rennes, they are now in eighth place in Ligue 1.
