The Montpellier team was leading 4-2 when the match was abruptly interrupted.
The referees had no choice but to suspend the match after seeing Diaw cross a missile thrown towards the field by the public.
The firecracker in question was already on the field when Diaw tried to recover the ball and restart the match.
The firecracker exploded as Diaw headed towards six meters from the penalty area, and the Senegalese international collapsed on the pitch.
He then found himself on the ground and was taken from the field on a stretcher.
