By drawing (2-2) on the Brighton pitch, Liverpool missed the opportunity to temporarily become Tottenham’s runner-up in the Premier League.

This Sunday afternoon, Brighton hosted Liverpool on the eighth day of the Premier League. In the twentieth minute of play, Simon Adingra opened the scoring. While Alisson was too far forward, the Ivorian winger struck from the right from 25 meters to give the Seagulls the advantage (1-0). Shortly before half-time, Mohamed Salah allowed the Reds to equalize, by converting a counter. Elliott let the Egyptian international pass, who found the net with a cross shot from the left (1-1, 40th).

In stoppage time in this first act, “Egyptian King” doubled the lead by scoring from the penalty spot, whistled following a foul by Gross on Szoboszlai in the area (1-2, 45th+1). Salah thus scored his fifth goal of the season, thanks to this double.

Brighton were very dangerous in the second half, but Liverpool managed to calm down their rhythm. Luis Diaz missed the opportunity to aggravate the score by not targeting his powerful left shot when it had been perfectly offset by Dominik Szoboszlai in the area (68th). Defender Lewis Dunk ended up equalizing by victoriously taking a free kick with his right shin (2-2, 78th).

With this draw, Jürgen Klopp’s men miss the opportunity to provisionally take second place in the Premier League. They are three points behind leader Tottenham and one point less than Manchester City, who travel to Arsenal at 5:30 p.m. for the eighth day of the English championship.
