First place was at stake this Saturday evening at the Stade Auguste-Delaune. Stade de Reims hosted AS Monaco on its lawn for the top of the standings. At the end of a lively and very involved match, it was ultimately AS Monaco who had the last word. The Monegasques tamed the Rémois with a score of 3 goals to 1.

AS Monaco therefore takes the lead in the ranking ahead of OGC Nice with a total of 17 points on the clock. The players from the Principality will meet Fc Metz at the Stade Louis II during the 9th day of Ligue 1 after the international break.

For its part, Stade de Reims concedes its second defeat of the season in the league and is provisionally in 4th position with 13 points pending the meeting between Stade Rennais and Paris Saint-Germain but also that of Lille against Racing Club from Lens.

Ultra-efficient Monegasques

It was a match that should not be lost on the pitch in Reims. Yet put in difficulty by a playful and aggressive Reims team, ASM held its back and was able to be effective at the end of the first period thanks to a goal from Ismail Jakobs. The left piston was found at the far post following a nice movement from the right between Wissam Ben Yedder and Krepin Diatta. The latter sent a slightly deflected cross to his teammate who finished the action with finesse with the flat of his left foot (42e1-0).

Confident thanks to this opener, Adi Hütter’s men picked up the Reims players cold as soon as they returned from the locker room. Folrarin Balogun makes the break against his former team with a powerful right-footed shot blocked by Yunis Abdelhamid (46e, 2-0). The former Reims player was perfectly found near the surface by Youssouf Fofana who pierced the Reims lines with the ball at his feet.

Wissam Ben Yedder makes history

A few minutes after Folrarin Balogun’s goal, Wissam Ben Yedder hit the Reims team with a goal from the surface. A school ball exit on the left side. Ismail Jakobs turns into a passer and finds his captain’s head with a perfectly balanced left-footed cross (49e, 3-0). With this achievement, the French international becomes the 21st player to reach 150 goals in Ligue 1.

Despite the reduction in the score from the penalty spot of Teddy Teuma (57e3-1) and an end to the match with great enthusiasm in front of a lively audience, the Rémois did not manage to overthrow the Monegasque machine at the end of the match.
