Manchester United legend David Beckham says he knows “the right people” to buy the club from the Glazer family.
For almost a year, the Glazers pondered the question of who would succeed them at the helm of the club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group and Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani were the first to make an offer. Both tabled offers of around 5 billion pounds ($6 billion) for United earlier this year, but neither has yet been accepted. While Sheikh Jassim’s team was only interested in a 100% takeover, Ratcliffe is now reportedly looking to secure a minority stake with a view to a definitive takeover. Red Devils legend Beckham has spoken out about the uncertainty facing the club, how it may affect results on the pitch and manager Erik ten Hag. The former England international stopped short of saying who would be the ideal candidate to replace Glazers, although he said he knows who is up to the task.
He declared to Sky Sports: “Let’s see. I think he (Ten Hag) is a good coach. It’s a difficult time at the moment, but there’s a lot of noise around the club, so it can’t be easy for him. We all want this noise to go away and a decision to be made, but (also) for the club, the fans, the players and the manager.
“We are one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the biggest. We want stability and I think that’s the most important thing. We all have our favorites, the ones we think should run the club, look after it and get it back to where it needs to be. In our eyes, in the eyes of the supporters, we are number one. We want to get back to the top. I think I know the right people to do it.”
