The Parisian coach defended his star player following the criticism he received this week.

For having been very disappointing on Wednesday evening during PSG’s match at Newcastle in the Champions League, Kylian Mbappé was attacked from all sides. Only one missed match and many specialists wondered if he really had the makings of a leader.

“Mbappé is neither Superman nor a normal player”

Attacks of which Luis Enrique, the coach of the Parisian team, learned. Naturally, the Spanish coach didn’t like it. And he didn’t hesitate to say it loud and clear this Saturday at a press conference.

“I remember that two or three weeks ago, in this same room, I was asked here if we were dependent on Kylian because he had just scored seven or eight goals. Now you ask me what Kylian should do because he hasn’t scored in his last matches… We have to be a little more normal. He is 100%. Players go through different states throughout a season. He’s not Superman when he scores eight goals and he’s not a normal player when he doesn’t score. Everything is not black or white, there are nuances all the time”thundered the Asturian coach.

Luis Enrique bid by promising that he will do everything to revive his star: “Kylian is a vital and decisive player for us. He is a decisive player. My goal as a coach is to highlight his strengths and not see his faults. »

It’s not just Mbappé who was defended by Luis Enrique. This is also the case for Ousmane Dembélé. The former Rennes man is also going through a complicated patch. His coach, however, does not doubt him for a second : “The problem with journalists is that it’s either all negative or all positive. I’m happy with Ousmane’s performance. I don’t believe in putting pressure on the players. When you lose with 4 attackers, it’s the coach’s fault… I know these are the rules of the game.”
