Former OM striker Mario Balotelli has revealed that he almost signed for FC Barcelona when he was young.
Balotelli would have liked to break through at Barça
Today at Adana Demispor, the former Manchester City and Inter Milan striker looked back on the six months spent at the La Masia academy. In an interview with TVPlay, he said: “I dreamed of playing for Barcelona when I was little. Before going to Inter, I spent six months at La Masia. I was supposed to sign with the Blaugrana club, but the president of Lumezzane asked for a lot of money for my transfer and Barcelona did not want to pay too much for a player who was not Catalan.”
“Super Mario” still has good memories of his short stay in Barcelona. “I trained with Alcantara, Dos Santos… We were all together. Then, after 3-4 months, (Massimo) Moratti called me and I went to Inter,” he added.
During his career, Balotelli played in three of the five major European championships, but he did not have the chance to perform in La Liga. It’s perhaps not too late yet, especially if he regains the effectiveness we know from the Turkish Super Lig.
