FC Barcelona and its sporting director Deco are reportedly eyeing a great hope for Belgian football.
FC Barcelona’s sports sector manager, Deco, monitors Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren. The latter impressed him during the meeting against the Blaugrana in the Champions League last month.
Barça prospects in Belgium
Vermeeren was very prominent during that match. Deco then asked Marc Overmards, his Antwerp counterpart and former Barça player, to tell him about the young player.
Barcelona emissaries attended Antwerp’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday. Their target, who is under contract with his club until 2026, once again showed his advantage.
Despite his good performances with Antwerp, Vermeeren was not selected by coach Domenico Tedesco for Belgium’s next two matches. The German justified this decision by stating: “I was at the stadium against Shakhtar, where he had a fantastic first half, but I wasn’t there for Arthur, because I already know him very well. I’ve seen him live several times. He’s an incredible player. The question is not if he will play for us, but when.”
