Ekitike, a salary that (still) makes people talk

In the LFP documentary on the last day of the transfer window, a scene shows to what extent Hugo Ekitike’s salary could have slowed down interested clubs.

This is a scene which is taken from the LFP documentary on the end of the summer transfer window in Ligue 1. We see Olivier Létang, the president of Losc, taking an interest in the situation of Hugo Ekitike, the Paris striker Saint Germain.

“I’m coming to the news. What are you going to do with Ekitike? », asks Létang to his interlocutor. But very quickly, the salary of the former Rémois posed a problem. “With what conditions? Phew… And how much is it? Oh yeah ? Holy cow, still XXX euros per year (the amount is bleeped in the extract, editor’s note). Wow. At least I have confirmation that for us it is impossible. »

Lille therefore had to give up on Ekitike, and found itself with little alternative to Jonathan David for the center forward position. The northern club is not the only one to have been put off by the Parisian striker’s salary (estimated at 600,000 euros per month according to L’Equipe). Eintracht Frankfurt also closed this avenue, which almost derailed discussions for the transfer of Randal Kolo Muani to PSG. At this price, there were probably only English clubs to line up.

As a result, since the end of the transfer window, Ekitike has been in the closet at PSG. While he came into play against Lorient (0-0), when Mbappé and Dembélé were in the stands, then present on the bench for the two other meetings in August, the former Rémois no longer appeared on no match sheet since the end of the transfer window. The arrivals of Ramos, Barcola and Kolo Muani relegated him very far in the hierarchy…
