For his first list at the head of the German selection, Julian Nagelsmann has decided to recall a 2014 world champion.

Became the youngest coach in the history ofGermany team to be appointed in September, Julian Nagelsmann is preparing to experience his first matches on the Mannschaft bench. Automatically qualified for Euro 2024 which will take place across the Rhine, the Germans are offering an American tour to two of the three organizers of the next world championship with two friendly matches against the United States (10/14) then against the Mexico (10/18) before challenging Austria on October 21.

A returning world champion

Three matches which will allow the new coach to take stock of his group and identify its weak points and its strong points. For his first list unveiled this Thursday, the former Bayern Munich coach has already made a strong first choice by recalling Mats Hummels (76 caps, 5 goals). Author of a good start to the season with Borussia Dortmund, the 34-year-old defender had not been called up since the round of 16 of Euro 2021 lost to England. At the time, Joachim Löw was still the Germany coach, so Hummels did not experience the passage under the leadership of Hansi Flick.

Nagelsmann also recalled Thomas Müller (123 caps, 45 goals), who had missed two of the last three meetings (in March and June) following an agreement made with former coach Hansi Flick. We find in this list other German executives such as Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gündogan, Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala and Antonio Rüdiger. Note the presence of four goalkeepers, without Manuel Neuer, who is still recovering from his fractured tibia contracted 10 months ago.
