The Vinicius Junior affair takes a new turn! Victim of racist insults last May during the match won by Valencia against Real Madrid (1-0), the Brazilian testified this Thursday at the Plaza Castilla court, accompanied by his lawyers and escorted by numerous police officers. After two aborted attempts – the 23-year-old winger had refused the judge’s first invitation because he was on vacation and had also declined the possibility of testifying by videoconference from his place of rest – the number 7 of the Merengues was therefore heard. For around 40 minutes, Vinicius Junior explained himself. Yes, but now, while the judge decided to point the finger at the three young accused (aged 18 to 23) in this case, the Seleção international, for his part, did not hesitate to insist on the fact that the entire Mestalla stadium had behaved in a racist manner towards him.
Statements which do not pass this Friday and which place the person concerned in a more than compromising situation. Indeed, by ensuring that an entire stadium had behaved in a racist manner, Vinicius commits perjury by deliberately lying. In this context, Super Sports recalls that several videos surrounding this episode were manipulated with chants from other supporters wrongly attributed to Mestalla images and that certain captions were not verified (the shouts “idiot, idiot” replaced by “monkey, monkey”). And the story doesn’t end there… During his testimony, Vinicius also admitted to having provoked the supporters present on site with gestures towards the stands by wishing for the relegation of Valencia CF to the second division.
Vinicius Junior’s accusations are controversial!
Questioned by defense lawyers, the Brazilian, despite everything, justified these provocations by his character and his desire to feel additional motivation in a hostile or tense atmosphere. If the Merengue therefore considers himself the victim of racist insults and intends to follow his approach to the end, his first interview with the courts leaves room for some questions. For its part, Valencia was quick to react, asking the Auriverde international to modify its comments. “In view of the information published about the alleged statement of the footballer Vinícius Jr. in court, according to which the entire Mestalla stadium threw racist insults at him during the match between Valencia CF and Real Madrid CF last season, the club wishes to express its surprise, rejection and indignation”.
And to add: “As coach Carlo Ancelotti publicly acknowledged, this behavior cannot under any circumstances be generalized to the entire Mestalla stadium. The Club is fully aware of the seriousness of this matter. Racism has no place in football or in society, but it cannot be fought with sophisms or baseless lies. This issue requires everyone’s involvement and Valencia CF understands that we must be scrupulously precise and responsible in these types of events. Valencia supporters cannot be described as racist and Valencia CF demands that Vinicius Jr. publicly corrects the statement he made this morning.. Back on the field after a muscle injury, Vinicius Junior finds himself immersed in a new controversy…
