What’s wrong with Kylian Mbappé? The Bondynois has just had a third match without scoring, after his early exit against OM (4-0), the 0-0 at Clermont, and the slap received at Newcastle (4-1). And the content of his meetings, notably the one played at Saint James’ Park on Wednesday evening, is not reassuring.
At the start of the week, L’Equipe mentioned a physical problem for the captain of the France team, whose preparation was disrupted by his sidelining in the heart of the summer. Beyond the physical aspect, we must not underestimate the mental wear and tear that resulted from this series.
“Mental weariness for Mbappé”
Le Parisien thus describes “a form of mental weariness” at Mbappé, driven in particular by his time in the loft. This episode “took a huge toll on him psychologically”and this standoff started by his club was sometimes experienced as a form of “moral harassment” by the 2018 world champion.
At the same time, Luis Enrique’s latest tactical adjustments do not necessarily suit PSG’s number 10. The Spanish coach has implemented a four-attacker system, with a left winger, Bradley Barcola or Randal Kolo Muani, who plays in Mbappé’s preferred zone.
