Dan Burn didn’t ask for Kylian Mbappé’s jersey when Newcastle faced PSG because he already has Peter Crouch and Per Mertesacker’s jerseys in his collection.

The Magpies full-back lined up against the 2018 World Cup winner when Eddie Howe’s side hosted Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. The Premier League club enjoyed their most memorable night in Europe, with a savored 4-1 victory at St James’ Park.

Mbappé’s jersey was demanded during and after the match, but Dan Burn, originally from the north-east of England, did not seek to appropriate the precious souvenir and joked with journalists after the match about the fact that he is satisfied with the exchanges he has made in the past: “It’s all about the jerseys now, you can just go on YouTube and see that you played against him. Anyway, I never asked for anyone’s jersey. I have a nice collection – I have Peter Crouch, Per Mertesacker and Wayne Routledge. These are the only three I have. I’m happy, get them framed on the wall! »

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles also didn’t ask Mbappé the question, with the experienced centre-back telling Sky Sports: “I told myself I wasn’t even going to bother asking. I had Marquinhos, who is not far from Mbappé! I didn’t want to talk to him. The only speech he was going to have was something aggressive! Playing against players like that is really crazy, and it’s a credit to everyone who participated in this evening. »

Magpies midfielder Sean Longstaff tried to talk with Mbappé, telling TNT Sports: “I was blocking him on a shot, so I tried to get it for my little brother.”
