Paris collapsed on the Newcastle lawn this Wednesday. When the final whistle blew, the Parisians could only see the damage.

PSG missed out on their second Champions League match. Out with the Newcastle Magpies, the French champions were below everything. In the end, they were corrected with a score of 4-1. And there will be no one to cry foul.

In their post-match reactions, the Parisian players admitted that they were not up to the task. On the other hand, they did not dwell on the questionable choices of their coach, preferring to talk about the errors to be corrected in order to improve. As for Luis Enrique, he did not indulge in alarmism even if he agreed that the score delivered was insufficient.

Lucas Hernandez (PSG defender on Canal+): “We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy match. But it’s the Champions League and we didn’t make an impact on the pitch. It’s also up to us to know how to manage the strong times and the weak times. It’s football and the Champions League and it’s up to us to turn this situation around. The next match against Milan will be essential. Four attackers in front? It’s a coach’s choice. We wanted to try to put the opposing defense in difficulty. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s up to us to continue.”

Warren Zaire-Emery (PSG midfielder on Canal+): “It’s not a failed match, but we made a lot of mistakes. They came looking for us high. Now we will look at our mistakes to improve ourselves. Tactical or mental problem? I don’t know what to answer you but we will look at the errors and correct them. The public was strong behind them, but that should not impress or destabilize us. Worried about what’s next? No, it’s only the 2e match and we have plenty left. It’s up to us to do things right.”

Luis Enrique (PSG coach on Canal+): “These are difficult games for the coach. Our attitude has not been good. The result is a little unfair, excessive. But I congratulate Newcastle who played good football. Why didn’t you change anything in the second half at the tactical level? Because I thought it was better and I still think so.”
