After two defeats in a row, Manchester City has resumed its march forward in the Champions League.

The weather has been gloomy in Manchester in recent days. Not to mention United’s disappointing performances, City were also at half mast, freshly weighed down by two unexpected losses to Newcastle in the League Cup (1-0) and Wolverhampton in the Premier League (2-1). This Wednesday, however, the Skyblues were able to find a part of blue sky by showing themselves to be dominant – and victorious – in the Champions League.

Two weeks after an initial success in the competition against Red Star Belgrade (3-1), it was with this same score that the Cityzens were able to win in Leipzig (1-3). A meritorious result but acquired through a tough struggle. If Foden quickly materialized the ascendancy of the English in this part (0-1, 25e), the RB returned to the score as soon as they returned from the locker room thanks to the former Lensois Openda (1-1, 48e).

We ultimately had to wait until the last minutes of the match to see Pep Guardiola’s men make the difference. By an irresistible Alvarez this season, first, on an assist from Doku (1-2, 84e). Then thanks to the latter, precisely. The former Rennais having had the last word in added time, served in turn by his Argentinian teammate (1-3, 90e+2). Manchester City, after two days, already reigns supreme over its group, with three points ahead of its opponent of the day – five over the Berne-Belgrade tandem, which was neutralized at the same time (2-2).
