New episode in the case which has pitted Cristiano Ronaldo against Kathryn Mayorga for several years for alleged rape. The latter appealed and was heard this Wednesday.

In June 2009, a certain Kathryn Mayorga contacted the Las Vegas police and claimed to have been the victim of rape, without mentioning the name of her attacker. Almost a decade later (2018), Cristiano Ronaldo was named in question but the Portuguese defended himself by ensuring that the relationship was consensual, which the justice system validated in 2019 by not prosecuting the footballer criminally. The alleged victim then filed a civil complaint for rape and was dismissed again, in 2022. But she did not give up and appealed the decision. She is heard this Wednesday.

The information was relayed by Sky News who explained that the plaintiff’s lawyers want in particular to cancel the inclusion of proof of the confidentiality agreement signed between Kathryn Mayorga and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2010, after the young woman agreed to receive around 320,000 euros to not not mention the episode. During the June 2022 verdict, the judge in charge of the trial rejected the request for additional compensation requested by Kathryn Mayorga, speaking in particular of “ bad faith“.

Ronaldo denies from the start

Now it’s up to the Ninth United States Court of Appeals to decide, once the hearing is complete. The plaintiff’s lawyers hope to have the civil trial reopened. As for Cristiano Ronaldo and his defenders, they have contested any accusation of rape from the start. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner ensures that the relationship was agreed to by both parties.
