Real Madrid have made it two wins out of two in this season’s Champions League, with another success on Tuesday, following a very eventful victory (3-2) over Napoli, Serie A champions, at the Diego Armando stadium Maradona.
Real, 14 times winners of the event, managed to turn the tide in the first half thanks to goals from Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham, before winning thanks to an own goal from the Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret at the end of the match.
Napoli’s equalizer came from the penalty spot, but the decision to award the penalty kick was highly controversial. Nacho Fernandez was found guilty of a handball in the penalty area, but Real manager Carlo Ancelotti told the media after the match (via Marca) that he felt the decision was the wrong one .
“I think there was no penalty. The ball bounced off Nacho’s hand – you can’t cut your hand! The rules say that on a rebound, there is no fault.”
Despite this, Ancelotti was happy with the result and performance, and he also praised Luka Modric, with the Croatia international having come under heavy scrutiny in recent weeks after losing his place in the team.
“Modric rose to the occasion. We needed more control, he entered the match very well and, thanks to his experience and his qualities, he allowed us to control the game better.
