The PSG coach did not like being criticized for the team he fielded last weekend in Clermont.

PSG remains on a poor performance in Ligue 1, with this draw recorded on the ground of the bottom in the standings (Clermont, 0-0). A hitch which can be explained by the fact that Luis Enrique did not put his preferred eleven. He left several regular starters on the bench at kick-off and among them was Manuel Ugarte.

Luis Enrique: “I have 23 starters”

The Uruguayan international has been one of PSG’s best players since the start of the season and it seems obvious that his absence has had a impact. The Spanish coach was criticized for not having fielded him, but he fully accepts this decision.

At a press conference this Tuesday, on the eve of the match against Newcastle in C1, Luis Enrique defended his choices and in a firm tone: “There is team building work. Creating a team is not about putting players in every minute of every match. It’s easy to say afterwards that Ugarte should have played in Clermont. This is no way to build a team. We have to make decisions that people won’t always understand. I’m trying to create a group with 23 starters and not just 11.”

What is certain is that on Wednesday, Luis Enrique will indeed call on the former Sporting player. The match that awaits the Parisians is on a whole new level and it seems essential to present themselves with the best possible eleven. The Asturian coach admitted it half-heartedly: “Newcastle no one wanted in this hat 4. It’s a very high level team with very high level players. They press well and have good, very complete footballing ideas. Up front they are going to play in front of their audience. »
