It is an evening that the Blood and Gold people have been waiting for for a long time. On Tuesday, the Champions League will return to Stade Bollaert, with a magnificent display between RC Lens and Arsenal. On this occasion, the Artesian club unveiled its new jersey, a golden tunic which recalls the one worn during the club’s last C1 campaign, in 2002-2003, and which will bring back excellent memories to lovers of the club.
“Today, the seniors are taking charge of the handover by supporting the current workforce in this new and long-awaited chapter. Twenty years after closing it, it is with the ultimate in European competitions that his story will begin at home, explains RC Lens in a press release. The club’s last appearance in this competition dates back to the early 2000s. An era marked by emblematic players, worn by a blood and gold jersey which left an indelible mark in the heads of Lensois supporters but also in the minds of all fans of football. »
To present this jersey, RC Lens organized a photo shoot with players from the current squad and glorious former players, such as Guillaume Warmuz and John Utaka. And it is the emblematic president Gervais Martel who is responsible for the narration in the presentation video. Another nice wink.
The 2002-2003 season was RC Lens’ last in the Champions League. That season, the Sang et Or were placed in a gala group, with Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Deportivo La Corogne. They had won two prestigious successes, in Bollaert against La Coruna (3-1) and Milan (2-1), to finish in third place in the group and move into the UEFA Cup.
