Pep Guardiola didn’t like the fact that his team was being criticized after just one defeat in the league.
Last Saturday, Manchester City conceded their first loss of the season in the Premier League. Against all expectations, the Sky Blues were dominated by Wolverhampton. After this misstep, observers across the Channel did not hesitate to come across the English champions and criticize their performance.
Guardiola does not dramatize
This external reaction was not to the taste of Pep Guardiola, the team manager. “I’m pretty sure today we didn’t lose the Premier League and we didn’t win it either. That’s still six wins out of seven, the Catalan coach wanted to put things into perspective. We could have done something we’ve never done before by winning seven in a row. We have our game, but the opponent played very, very well.”
Guardiola also admitted his responsibility for this misstep: “Today some details didn’t happen and maybe I made some bad decisions.”
He also did not fail to take his hat off to the opponent for his extraordinary performance: “They defended very well and they had the ability to keep the ball, drive and dribble forward. I told the team that they (Wolves) got knocked out of the League Cup by a lower league team and they were revengeful. It’s difficult to face them in this context.”
City recorded their first defeat in the PL, but it was their second in a row having also fallen earlier this week against Newcastle in the League Cup.
