The body responsible for refereeing in England has explained that Liverpool’s disallowed goal against Tottenham should have been validated.
The clash between Tottenham and Liverpool this Saturday kept all its promises. Although reduced to 9 following the exclusions of Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, the Reds managed to hold the match until the 96th minute and an own goal from Joel Matip.
Disaster scenario for the Reds
A scenario and decisions which annoyed Jürgen Klopp, especially since the match could, and should, have gone differently. In the 32nd minute, Luis Diaz thought he had given his team the lead while the score was still 0-0, but referee Simon Hooper finally refused the goal after consulting the VAR for an offside position.

Except that a few hours after the match, the body responsible for refereeing in England published a press release explaining that this goal should have been validated and that its cancellation was due to a manifest error. “Luis Diaz’s goal was disallowed by the refereeing team on the pitch. It was an obvious mistake and the goal should have been awarded, but the VAR didn’t work. An investigation will be carried out to understand the circumstances of this malfunction”, we can read in this press release. Enough to further fuel the frustration of Jürgen Klopp and his players, but also and above all of the supporters of the Mersey club.
