Losc was indeed ordered to pay damages to its former coach Marcelo Bielsa. But the latter did not win his case on all counts.
The Douai Court of Appeal ruled. Dismissed from Losc for serious misconduct on December 15, 2017, Marcelo Bielsa escaped six years later with 2 million euros in damages, plus coverage of his legal and interpreting costs.
Initially, the Argentinian technician, now coach of Uruguay, demanded 19 million euros from Losc, but the courts rejected many of his requests, recognizing the serious fault of El Loco for his attitude to several respects.
The Lille club’s conviction is based on the structure of the first contract initialed by Marcelo Bielsa, including a clause which provided for lump sum compensation for his benefit whatever the reason for possible dismissal, including in the event of serious misconduct.
