At a press conference this Friday, Leonardo Balerdi spoke about the methods of new OM coach Gennaro Gattuso.

This Wednesday, theOlympic Marseille welcomed the third coach of its 2023-2024 season. After the casting error which saw Marcelino resigning after only 7 matches at the head of the club and the short interim of Jacques Abardonado, which ended in a scathing defeat at the Parc des Princes (0-4 against PSG), it is Gennaro Gattuso who officially became the new coach of OM.

Gattuso wants to create a family

The Italian technician led his first training sessions with his new team, and the Olympian players were able to get a first idea of the latter’s methods. Present at a press conference this Friday, Leonardo Balerdi spoke about the former coach of Milan, Naples and even Valencia. “It’s not a good situation but the last few days went well, the training was intense. Gattuso is trying to give us more confidence. He asks us for a lot of sacrifices on the pitch, he gives us his heart and he hopes for the same thing in return. He wants us to become a family”first said the Argentinian defender.

A play style similar to Tudor

The 24-year-old then focused on the training methods and style of play proposed by Gattuso, which he compares with that of Igor Tudor in 2022-2023. “There have been several changes, both in terms of players and staff. This led to confusion, the game project was not the same. Gattuso’s game is undoubtedly closer to that of Tudor. (…) We really want to play”he added.

Despite the sporting and extra-sporting difficulties encountered by the Riviera club in recent weeks, the former Dortmund player remains confident for the rest of the season. “I have a lot of confidence in the team. We had difficult weeks but the team was united, that’s the most important thing. We have to raise our heads, we know this club and the importance of the crest”. Gennaro Gattuso will lead his first match as coach of Olympique de Marseille this Saturday on the AS Monaco pitch.
