In an interview published this Friday, Moussa Dembélé looked back on the good and bad times of his time at Olympique Lyonnais.

The adventure of Moussa Dembélé to theOlympique Lyonnais will have experienced highs, including three seasons with more than 20 goals scored in all competitions, but also some lows, such as his fifth and final season during which he only scored three goals in 19 matches and definitively lost his place within the Lyon workforce. Left on the side ofAl-Ettifaq this summer, the 27-year-old striker seems to be flourishing on the pitch (8 goals in 7 matches) and has already won over his new supporters, an essential element for his confidence, as he confided in an interview with Foot Mercato.

Not all good memories in Lyon…

“There’s no photo on that. In football as in life, when you feel appreciated and supported you are better. Hostility does not scare me when it comes from the adversary. I would even say that it stimulates me. (…) But when the hostility comes from your own supporters and it becomes hatred, that’s another story. My last season in Lyon was complicated. I had started well despite the obstacles put in the way by management. I admit that I should and could have done better. But that wasn’t the case. I am lucid and objective about my services”he said.

Concerning the management of the club, Dembélé did not mince his words and was very candid about his time in the Rhône when talking about his worst memory. “(His worst memory) is the insults of my own supporters towards my family. Hearing 20,000 people insult my mother and insult me with every touch of the ball is not bearable. Not a single leader tried to calm things down. They all hid and remained silent. (…) There is no long-term footballing project, no vision, only smoke and mirrors. It’s catastrophic. They are incompetent even at selling players. (…) There is no strategy! I’m not a manager but that’s the basis. Even that, which is the basis of business, they don’t have it! The leaders are all incompetent and arrogant”said the former Celtic player, who has not only remembered good things from his time at OL.
