OM ‍: False joy for Payet, Anigo reaches out to him

Confined to a substitute role this season, Dimitri Payet could have taken advantage of the departure of coach Igor Tudor to relaunch at Olympique de Marseille. Unfortunately for the attacking midfielder, the Croatian’s resignation does not change his situation. The Marseille club still hopes to eject the Reunionese coveted by a certain José Anigo.

Who says change of coach often says redistribution of the cards. Some Olympique de Marseille players are well placed to know this. Indisputable holders under the orders of Jorge Sampaoli last season, Mattéo Guendouzi and especially Dimitri Payet have lost their status with Igor Tudor. Suffice to say that the two midfielders will not regret the resignation of the Croatian. But according to L’Equipe, this decision does not change anything in their situation.

On the one hand, the former Arsenal player is still considered a good market value to sell this summer. And on the other, the Reunionese still does not enter the plans of Pablo Longoria. We know that the president never appreciated his status as “Marseillais for life”. As a reminder, Dimitri Payet had signed a contract with the previous management until 2024, accompanied by a retraining as manager at Olympique de Marseille. The Spanish boss will still try to dig into the current tracks, namely Olympiakos and exotic destinations.

Payet towards a loan?

For the moment, these possibilities do not interest the playmaker. But our colleagues from the Phocaean are considering a scenario that would suit all parties concerned. Indeed, José Anigo, current coach and sports director of Olympiakos, could convince his former player to join him on loan for his last year of contract. Thus, the Marseillais would return in 2024 to take advantage of his retraining in the Olympian organization chart. Still, Dimitri Payet would have to agree to pack his bags, if only to go away for a season.
