EFL Cup: Man City down

The Skyblues were knocked out by Newcastle (1-0) in the round of 16 of the English League Cup.

And a trophy that eludes Manchester City! Quadruple winner of this event between 2018 and 2021, Pep Guardiola’s club was taken out on the Newcastle lawn (1-0), Wednesday evening, in the round of 16 of the League Cup.

With a reshuffled formation, as is the case for all League Cup teams, the Skyblues gave in at the start of the second half with a goal from Alexander Isak (53rd). Without Erling Haaland, who remained on the bench, the reigning English and European champions were unable to react.

Newcastle reached the final of this EFL Cup last season, beaten by Manchester United.
