Paris Saint-Germain made short work of Olympique de Marseille (4-0) at the Parc des Princes, at the end of the 6th day of Ligue 1. But this meeting was also marked by an extra episode -sporting: homophobic chants launched by Parisian supporters in the stands “the Marseillais are p####, sons of p####, enc####”. Present at an event for Paris 2024, our colleagues from RMC Sport captured a new media release on this subject from the Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra: “It’s a subject that must be taken head-on by all of French football. It’s PSG’s business but it’s not just PSG’s business. We have already heard these homophobic chants in other stadiums with other teams. Passion for football, yes but not discrimination. We can’t get used to these homophobic chants. Just because they happen or have happened regularly doesn’t mean you have to get used to them. On the contrary, we must fight and say that these words that we hear in our stadiums are not acceptable and that they have no place there.

Madam Minister continues to push internally for real legal sanctions to be taken. Sanctions that go beyond the sporting framework: “We have developed a legal arsenal to combat these elements. What is important is to have individual sanctions aimed at the people who launch these chants from the stands. When I hear that it’s part of folklore, it revolts me. We’re not going to get used to that otherwise, it’s going to be passed down from generation to generation and our kids in the stadiums, what are they going to say: ‘well that’s normal, I’m singing too’. It’s just not possible, we have to wake up, we all have to act together”she continued, rejoicing that the Interministerial Delegation for the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBT hatred (Dilcrah) had made a report to the public prosecutor.
