This Monday, the Spanish press explained that Pep Guardiola had not appreciated the attitude of Joao Cancelo at Manchester City.

Landed this summer at FC Barcelona, Joao Cancelo makes a more than remarkable debut with his new team? On the right side of the Blaugrana defense, the Portuguese international displays all his technique and is even decisive. This was the case this Saturday during Barcelona’s victory against Celta Vigo, during which Cancelo was crucial with an assist and the winning goal in the 89th minute.

Guardiola did not appreciate his attitude

Brilliant performances reminiscent of those produced by the 29-year-old when he played for Manchester City. However, his adventure with the Skyblues took a turn last winter, during which he joined Bayern Munich on loan. A radical change in the situation which until now had no real explanation. But if we are to believe the indiscretions of Catalunya RadioIt is Pep Guardiola himself who would no longer want it. If he greatly appreciates the Lusitanian full-back, his attitude last season did not please the Spanish technician at all.

More precisely during the Cityzens’ defeat against Manchester United (1-2) in January. Cancelo’s attitude was considered inappropriate by Pep Guardiola, who decided to replace him with Rico Lewis in the following match against Tottenham, then against Wolverhampton and finally against Arsenal in the FA Cup, three matches won by the Mancunians. After the last match won against Arsenal, Guardiola asked the club’s leaders to get rid of the Portuguese during the winter transfer window.

Having left for Bayern Munich on loan, he was not as successful as during his time at City and the German club did not even wish to exercise the purchase option. Returning to England this summer, the native of Barreiro was still considered undesirable by his coach. Loaned without purchase option to Barça, he hopes to be permanently recruited by the Catalan club… or another club.
