Despite the injury of Harvey Barnes before the end of the first quarter of an hour (12th), the visitors quickly took control of the match. In the wake of this bad news for the Magpies, Sean Longstaff opened the scoring (21st, 0-1).

About ten minutes later, Dan Burn increased the score (31st, 0-2) while Sven Botman did it again shortly after (35th, 0-3) to propel the Magpies to a clear and flawless victory. Unable to react, Sheffield United continued to suffer after returning from the locker room. At the hour mark, the visitors accelerated again and scored no less than five new goals through Callum Wilson (56th, 0-4), Anthony Gordon (61st, 0-5), Miguel Almiron (68th, 0-6), Bruno Guimaraes (73rd, 0-7) and Alexander Isak (87th, 0-8). Thanks to this great victory, Newcastle moved up to 8th place in the Premier League.
