It’s an open secret: Xavi Hernandez will extend his contract on the bench of FC Barcelona, runner-up to Real Madrid in the championship, until 2025, all that’s missing is formalization. The Spanish press even mentioned a secret clause in the 2010 world champion’s lease for an additional year in the event of a final coronation in La Liga or the Champions League. Present at a press conference, the 43-year-old coach confirmed the news to journalists.
“My contract extension was negotiated a few days ago and we reached an agreement. Everything will be announced soon. I am happy”, simply announced the Catalan technician before facing Celta de Vigo at Montjuic for the sixth day of La Liga on Saturday evening. Arriving in place of Ronald Koeman in November 2021, Xavi won two trophies with the Blaugrana, namely the 2022 Spanish Super Cup and the championship last season.
