Some OL supporters would have liked Karim Benzema to end his career with his training club. Jean-Michel Aulas didn’t even try.

At the beginning of last June, Real Madrid announced the departure of Karim Benzema, after fourteen seasons spent with the Spanish club. At the same time, the French striker signed up for three seasons with the Al-Ittihad Club in Saudi Arabia.

Rumors of a return to OL had however circulated, but Jean-Michel Aulas assures that it would have been impossible. “What if I tried to bring him back?” No. I wouldn’t have allowed myself to do that because it’s a personal choice. Karim is coming to the end of his career, he has won everything collectively and was Ballon d’Or. It’s a source of immense pride. He has a culture and a way of living which is consistent with the choice he made. We must applaud with both hands. I wish Karim Benzema, his family, his descendants to be happy. Karim is a very balanced person who made the right choice”confided the former president of the Rhone club to bein Sports.

Trained at Olympique Lyonnais, Karim Benzema played the first five years of his professional career on the banks of the RhĂ´ne. In 148 matches played in the colors of OL, the one who will win the 2022 Ballon d’Or has scored 66 goals, in all competitions.
