As expected given the defeat of the Blues in Germany (2-1), France lost ground on Argentina at the top of the FIFA Ranking.

The Blues’ good series came to an abrupt end. Winner of its first five matches in 2023 without even conceding a goal, the France team actually fell in Germany. Four days after continuing their success in the qualifiers for Euro 2024 by dominating Ireland at the Parc des Princes (2-0), Didier Deschamps’ men, deprived of several starters including Kylian Mbappé, lost in friendly (2-1) on the lawn of Iduna Park.

And this defeat is not only symbolic. This setback also has consequences for the FIFA Ranking. While it was back on the heels of Argentina after its two victories in June, France saw its tormentor of the 2022 final regain his distance. Consequence of his two victories won as part of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the Amsud zone, against Ecuador (1-0) then in Bolivia (3-0).

Ahead of only 0.19 points in the previous ranking, France now has more than ten points outlay with 1840.76 points compared to 1851.41 for the Albiceleste. And its second place is now also seriously threatened. With its two victories against Bolivia (5-1) and Peru (1-0), Brazil has in fact returned to just 3.15 points behind the world vice-champions.

For the rest, England and Belgium still complete the Top 5, ahead of Croatia and the Netherlands, and Portugal has taken 8e place to the detriment of Italy, with Spain closing the Top 10.
