PSG at the World Cup?

Still looking for its first title in the Champions League, PSG should, barring disaster, participate in the first 32-player Club World Cup, scheduled for 2025 in the United States. The four winners of the C1 from 2021 to 2024 will be accompanied by the 8 other best European teams.

You may have missed this, but the great Club World Cup dreamed of by Gianni Infantino will have its first edition in 2025 in the United States, during the June-July period, a year before the 2026 World Cup organized in North America. The competition will bring together 32 teams, including 12 European clubs, and PSG is very well on its way to being one of the participants. The 12 European qualifiers will be known at the end of this 2023-2024 season.

Only four LDC winners will be there in 2025: Chelsea (2021), Real Madrid (2022) and Manchester City (2023) are already assured of their participation, before the outcome of the 2023-2024 financial year. UEFA has in fact decided to offer the 8 other sesames to the 8 other best European clubs over the last 4 seasons (over the period 2020-2024). In this little game, Bayern and PSG largely lead the way and only a fiasco in the group stage could take them out of the top 8.

Important clarification: UEFA has limited the number of clubs per European country to two (unless a third English club wins the C1 on June 1, in which case there would be three English representatives). Barça is virtually not qualified for this “Club World Super”. The Blaugranas have fewer UEFA points than Atlético and must therefore earn enough to overtake the Colchoneros. Or simply raise the big-eared cup next year.
