Manchester City: Jérémy Doku is already impressing everyone!

Does Jérémy Doku have broad enough shoulders and strong enough back? This is a question that kept coming up when the young Belgian prodigy was sent to Manchester City on August 24. A few weeks later, the former Rennais apparently wanted to provide a first element of an answer. Established, Saturday afternoon, during his team’s victory at West Ham (3-1) on the occasion of the 5th day of the Premier League, the 21-year-old winger, in fact, took advantage of the opportunity to sign his first goal in his new colors. Faulty on the Hammers’ opening score, the Red Devil thus redeemed themselves by equalizing with a great personal feat, on the left side.

A successful start for the man who made his first minutes just before the international break during the Citizens’ big victory against Fulham (5-1). Once again aligned in Pep Guardiola’s eleven, the Belgian international (16 caps, 2 goals) thus proved that he could fully flourish for Manchester City. Present in the physical impact – an element which worried several observers at the time of his departure – the one who won 8 of his 14 duels while recovering 6 balls also made his speed and his percussion speak on the left side.

Pep Guardiola is already won over!

With Erling Haaland at his side, Borgerhout’s crack did not seem impressed, despite still having a significant waste (19 lost balls). A successful performance and logically underlined by his coach at the final whistle. “In his first match (against Fulham, editor’s note), I would say he was shy. It’s normal when you have just arrived and have only played two or three training sessions. But today (Saturday), that was not the case. He’s a real winger, he catches the ball, he’s capable of going one-on-one.”affirmed in particular the Catalan coach, questioned by Sky Sportsbefore continuing.

“From the first minute, he was incredible, great determination, he did lots of good things. We knew he had qualities and he is starting to show them”. Words which will not fail to please the main interested party, who is also delighted to have unlocked his goal counter. “It means a lot to me, especially since West Ham’s first goal was because of me. I wanted to redeem myself and I helped the team, I’m very happy. I enjoyed it, I had a lot of 1v1s. The coach told me to try to set and dribble, it worked. In the first match, Pep told me that I was a little shy but today it was better”.

After an ongoing series of five victories in five matches in the league, Manchester City and Jérémy Doku now have an appointment with the Champions League on Tuesday evening, with the reception of Red Star Belgrade at the Etihad Stadium. A new opportunity for the 1m73 right-hander to prove that, more than ever, he has his place within this world-class squad. Under contract until June 2028, the player trained at Anderlecht is, in any case, off to a very good start with the Skyblues…
