A French journalist does not understand Lyon’s choice to bet on the young Italian coach, Fabio Grosso.

To ensure the continuation of Laurent Blanc on their bench, OL are preparing to enlist Italian coach Fabio Grosso. Although he is a veteran of the club, the young Italian is not unanimous among observers. On TV sets, we have already started to cut it.

“Grosso, is not a reference coach”

Thursday evening, during the show L’Equipe de Greg, journalist Karim Bennani indicated that Grosso was not really legitimate to coach Les Gones. “I am not at all convinced by this choice. OL are in danger and they need a coach who has a reference. Grosso is not one of them. The climate in Lyon is heavy. And you need a coach who has already experienced that, to acclimatize quickly.”

Grosso achieved great things in Italy. He also has the distinction of having played in Ligue 1. But for Bennani, that is not enough: “We remember that there have been many big French clubs which have been in a vicious circle recently and which have not managed to get out of it like ASSE, Bordeaux. Basically, he knew Ligue 1 but he doesn’t know the current Ligue 1. And he lacks experience. And then, he went to OL but he only stayed there for two years and he wasn’t really marked by the red iron.”

While expressing reservations about Grosso, Bennani approves the idea of changing coach: “I think that Grosse will still change something because Laurent Blanc has arrived at the end of a cycle”.
