The end is approaching for Laurent Blanc at Olympique Lyonnais. The 1998 world champion could be fired this Monday by the Rhone club, which is moving forward to find his successor.

Laurent Blanc and Olympique Lyonnais, it’s (soon) over. After a difficult start to the season, marked by two slaps received at Groupama Stadium (4-1 against Montpellier and PSG), and punished by a last place in the standings, the Rhone coach should quickly be dismissed from his duties.

According to L’Equipe, the 1998 world champion “could be fired this Monday for insufficient results”. The change has been initiated, since JĂ©rĂ©mie Brechet, current coach of the U19s of Les Gones, was responsible for leading the training session this Monday afternoon. The former defender will act in the interim alongside Sonny Anderson (advisor to the president) and Jean-François Vulliez, one of Laurent Blanc’s current assistant coaches, who would therefore be responsible for ensuring continuity.

It’s been about a week since OL decided to turn the page on Laurent Blanc. President John Textor explored several avenues, such as those leading to Graham Potter, Oliver Glasner and Habib Beye. But it would be Gennaro Gattuso who would currently hold the rope, still according to L’Equipe. The Italian technician is currently free since his departure from Valencia last January, and his agent is the powerful and influential Jorge Mendes.

Laurent Blanc arrived at OL in the fall of 2022, to replace Peter Bosz. Despite a better second half of the season than the first, he failed to obtain European qualification. The failed start to the season for Alexandre Lacazette and his teammates should be fatal for him.
