This tremendous Arsenal flop

He had to break everything at the Gunners but Nicolas Pépé and Arsenal fell from above. Four years after his arrival with fanfare in London, the Ivorian striker left London for Turkey.

Summer 2019, the French Championship once again lost one of its offensive talents: Nicolas Pépé. Ligue 1 still admits defeat in the face of the enormous attraction from abroad and in particular the Premier League.

The left-handed striker joins Arsenal after having enjoyed playing for Losc. With Lille, the left-hander scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 38 Ligue 1 matches in 2018-2019.

The leaders of the Gunners do not hesitate to come out… 80 million euros to recruit the Ivorian international (37 caps – 10 goals). His adventure in London turns into a failure with mixed beginnings.

Five goals in 31 Championship matches in the first season (2019-2020), Nicolas Pépé doubled the bet the next (10 goals – 29 matches). But this is not enough for the English club, especially since the third year confirms a certain decline in statistical terms.

Nicolas Pépé becomes a replacement after 10 days of the Premier League in 2021-2022 in the eyes of Mikel Arteta. The Gunners coach often prefers Bukayo Saka on the right wing. Only one goal scored in 20 appearances in the Championship, the former Angers player is having his worst spell with Arsenal.

Loaned last season to OGC Nice, with an average record (8 goals in 28 matches in all competitions), Nicolas Pépé is trying it this time in Turkey.

The 28-year-old striker left for Trabzonspor on a one-season contract. The 80M investment did not bring much to Arsenal.
