Mario Balotelli, the enfant terrible of Italian football, has just revealed an approach he took when he was still at Marseille.
Former Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli was asked this week to give his opinion on the emergence of the Saudi championship. A newcomer to the football market that Super Mario does not view very favorably.
Balotelli preferred OM to money
Balotelli does not understand renowned players who rush to join second-rate leagues, abandoning all sporting ambition. And he assures that he knew how to resist this temptation: “I rejected a Chinese offer which was much higher than the Arab figures. I don’t regret having refused it, I preferred to play football and stay in Marseille, he told ControCalcio. I don’t know what I will do in the future, but how can you say that someone goes to Saudi Arabia for any reason other than money? If they offered little money, the players wouldn’t go there.”
Balotelli is considering his options after being released by Sion. And a return to the country does not enchant him more than that. “Last year I watched a few Serie A matches and it was not out of malice, but I compared them to the matches we played in Turkey. The level is almost higher in Türkiye today than in Serie A.”
“Serie A is not a bad championship, but the level of other championships is rising,” added the former Nice striker. An opinion which is self-respecting, but which is questionable. Didn’t the Italians place two of their representatives in the last four of the previous Champions League?
