Thierry Henry made an important decision for his first match at the head of the France U23 team.

Thierry Henry will know Thursday evening his first as coach of the France Espoirs team. In the Euro qualifiers, his Bleuets will challenge Denmark at the Marcel-Picot stadium in Nancy (6:30 p.m.).

Henry starts an 18-year-old goalkeeper

For this match, the French legend made some strong choices. Among these decisions, there is the tenure as goalkeeper of Guillaume Restes, the last bastion of Toulouse. The latter is only 18 years old and he is therefore launched into the deep end by the successor of Sylvain Ripoll.

Of Ivorian origin, Restes has established himself as number 1 in Tououse this season after the departure of Maxime Dupé. Kjetil Haug was recruited to this position, but he was able to get ahead and afford his first matches in Ligue 1.

Remains was preferred to two other goalkeepers, namely Robin Rissier (Dijon) and Lucas Lavallée (Dunkirk). He will also have the mission of making people forget Lucas Chevallier, excellent in the woods during the last matches of the Espoirs.

Besides, Henry chose to appoint Castello Lukeba as his team’s captain. That says a lot about the trust he has in her. And it’s a very nice gesture towards a player who is going through a complicated moment, with the criticism recently leveled against him by the OL public.
