Former Italian football great Fabio Cannavaro has slammed Roberto Mancini for the way he left Squadra Azzurra.
Former Juventus and Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro believes Roberto Mancini could have handled his departure from Italy better.
“Mancini did not leave at the right time”
Mancini resigned as Italy manager last month before accepting Saudi Arabia a week later. A scenario that the Ballon d’Or 2006 did not digest at all.
Cannavaro told Sky Italia: “It was a tough choice. Certainly there could have been other times to make this decision. The important matches are close, it’s a choice that was not made at the right time.
The 2006 world champion understands that Mancini wanted a more attractive contract. He doesn’t judge him on that aspect. On the other hand, he blames him for not having informed anyone of his intentions. ” He had a big offer and when there are offers like that, we think about it. Mancini made his choice and it has to be respected, but he could have thought about it earlier”.
Regarding his own coaching career, Cannavaro said: “I had experiences abroad and one in Italy which didn’t go very well. I will wait and study, then we will see what happens in the future”.
