Cher Ndour’s signing from Paris Saint-Germain was, to say the least, unexpected. Accustomed to targeting players known and recognized by the general public when the transfer market comes to the fore, the capital club made a bet on the future this summer by recruiting the 18-year-old midfielder. Revealed in the colors of Benfica Lisbon in the Youth League last season, the Italian prodigy has signed up with the reigning French champion until June 2028.

More than a month after his departure, the president of Benfica, Rui Costa, confided with a touch of bitterness behind the scenes of his transfer to France. At the end of his contract with the Portuguese club, the Portuguese manager explained that his protege had opted for PSG in order to take a new step in his young career rather than continuing his progress with the Eagles. “We negotiated a lot, it was about to be renewed, he understood that the future did not go through Benfica and PSG appeared. We really wanted him to stay, but I can’t force him to stay at Benfica. Often players have less patience because today there are a lot more offers and I respect that. They think more about the immediate and less about the future.regretted the former Portuguese playmaker, comments reported by In Bola.
