Mohamed Salah will not be part of the Egyptian selection for the last game of the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations against Ethiopia.
The Liverpool star was originally due to join the national team camp on Monday to prepare for the final game of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ethiopia on September 8. But The Sun claims that Salah has been rested by Egypt manager Rui Vitoria as the Pharaohs have already secured their qualification for the competition. The 31-year-old will, however, take part in the friendly match against Tunisia on September 12.
Salah’s future at Anfield was thrown into question after Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad submitted a £150million offer on deadline day, but the Reds turned down the offer.
The Middle Eastern club could come back with an even bigger offer to try to convince the Anfield club to let him go.
After scoring in his side’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, the Egyptian star will return to his national side for the next friendly.
