On paper, Bayern Munich had everything to experience a great celebration. This Saturday, during the Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund, the Bavarian club found its audience with a very special attraction: Harry Kane. Crowned Ballon d’Or 2026, the English striker presented his prestigious trophy in front of the Munich supporters, before returning to the field with the ambition to continue his momentum. But the scenario quickly turned into a nightmare for the Bavarians. Less inspired than usual, the former Tottenham striker did not manage to impact the match as much as hoped and even missed a penalty. A frustrating evening for the new best player in the world, who was particularly expected after his individual consecration. And as if that wasn’t enough, Bayern finally conceded the draw in the very last seconds of the match (2-2), letting slip away a victory that was within reach.
But beyond this frustrating result, it is above all the state of the infirmary which risks giving Bayern Munich headaches. In the space of a single match, the German club lost three starters to injury. The first to have been forced to leave his partners was Ismaël Saibari. After missing a one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper, the Moroccan international tried to recover the ball, but collided with the goalkeeper. On this action, his knee and ankle suffered a worrying twist, forcing him to immediately give up his place. A few minutes later, Serge Gnabry found himself on the ground, visibly the victim of a muscular problem. Unable to continue the match, the German international also had to leave. And the bad news didn’t stop there since Michael Olise was also hit during the game before going out injured and requesting a change. Three major blows for the Bavarian offensive sector, while the severity of these injuries remains to be determined.
A plethora of injuries
A real massacre which occurs in an already particularly delicate context for Bayern Munich. Because in addition to the infirmary filled with Luis Diaz, Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala, the Bavarian club still has to deal with the absence of its coach Vincent Kompany. Victim of illness last Friday at the training center, the Belgian technician was hospitalized for five days before being able to return home on Wednesday. Medical examinations revealed meningitis, which occurred after a viral infection contracted a few days earlier. Although his state of health has improved, the former Manchester City defender is still unable to return to his position on the bench. His English assistant Aaron Danks therefore continues to act on an interim basis, while Kompany continues his convalescence with rest and medical treatment. A necessarily unusual situation for Bavarian players, deprived of their head coach in a particularly busy period.
Between the unusual poor form of Harry Kane, the successive injuries to Saibari, Gnabry and Olise and this equalizer conceded at the last second, Bayern Munich will have experienced a particularly frustrating evening. The draw against Borussia Dortmund leaves a bitter taste. Already deprived of Vincent Kompany, the German club could now have to do without several important elements of its offensive animation. The next medical examinations will therefore be carefully scrutinized to determine the duration of unavailability of the three players. In the meantime, the Bavarians will have to quickly digest this evening and find solutions to prevent this accumulation of bad news from disrupting their season. Plus the Champions League is approaching…
