The health of Vincent Kompany is worrying on the other side of the Rhine. Yesterday, the Bayern Munich coach was urgently hospitalized after feeling unwell on Friday afternoon at the German club’s training center. The 40-year-old Belgian technician had been attending the session of the U23 team, led by Dante, for around twenty minutes, after following that of the first team, when he suddenly collapsed. Emergency services quickly intervened and a helicopter was requested to ensure his transfer to a hospital in Munich. If this episode caused great concern within the club, the first news is reassuring and his condition is stable.

The health of the Belgian technician now remains the top priority for Bayern Munich. Kompany had recently suffered from a viral infection and hip pain, which forced him to miss several training sessions and a press conference. The exact causes of his discomfort, however, remain unknown and additional examinations are necessary to clarify the circumstances of this incident. The club therefore prefers to focus on its recovery, without rushing its return to business.

Vincent Kompany will be absent for several weeks

Asked by the German press, Max Eberl, sporting director of Bayern Munich, explained that the coach’s absence was expected to last several weeks. “It won’t be a matter of days, but of weeks“, he indicated, specifying that Kompany would remain hospitalized for several days. The manager also confided that he spoke with the technician and his wife after this worrying episode, which left its mark within the Bavarian club.

Pending his return, assistant coach Aaron Danks will take charge of the team, starting with the trip to Freiburg in the Bundesliga this weekend. The Englishman already knows this role having replaced Kompany last season in the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the important sporting events awaiting Bayern, the priority remains to allow Vincent Kompany to fully regain his health before considering a resumption of his duties. He can only hope for a speedy recovery for the former Manchester City defender.
