Naples is going through a worrying crisis at the start of the season. With five defeats in its first nine matches in all competitions, the club had not experienced such a negative record for twenty years. Massimiliano Allegri’s position is now weakened, while the next two home matches, against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday in the Champions League then against AS Roma on Saturday in Serie A, could be decisive for his future. According to the Gazzetta dello SportAurelio De Laurentiis would also have been surprised by certain compositional choices, notably the Giovane-Lucca association in attack during the defeat against Venice.
Despite the poor dynamic, Allegri defended his team’s performance and called on his players to react. “Given the results, it’s normal to be worried, but let’s look at the performance instead”he explained, believing that Naples had created numerous chances against Villarreal and had delivered a well-organized match against Venice before cracking down on an error. “Having already experienced moments like this in my career, I know that you have to turn disappointment into rage to win matches”concluded the technician. Two new negative results could, however, push the Neapolitan management to consider a radical change on the bench and they would be thinking in particular of Vincenzo Montella, recently sacked from TĂĽrkiye.
