Thursday evening, Olympique de Marseille was beaten on home soil by Olympiakos during the second day of the Europa League. With two defeats in the competition, the Olympians are already in bad shape. In the championship the results are not much better. If they beat Troyes this weekend, Bruno Genesio’s men have 6 points after 6 days and are in 13th place.
A catastrophic start to the season
This catastrophic result is also sadly historic for Marseille. This is in fact the last season in which the Phocéens lost 6 of their first 8 matches. At the end of this season, OM finished 19th in D1 and were relegated. A scenario which would be a catastrophe at the end of the 2026-2027 financial year.
Genesio in the hard
For Bruno Genesio, the beginnings on the Marseille bench are complicated. He is in fact the first coach to lose six of his first eight matches at OM since Mario Zatelli in 1964. And if he became the most capped French coach in the Europa League with 44 matches, he has just suffered four consecutive defeats in the competition for the first time in his career.
Before returning to the Europa League against Sturm Graz, the Riviera club travels to Angers this Sunday with the ambition of moving away from the red zone as quickly as possible.
