Real Madrid beat Villarreal (1-0) this Saturday evening at the Bernabéu, on the eighth day of La Liga. Kylian Mbappé lacked efficiency during this meeting.

FC Barcelona having easily won against Getafe earlier in the evening, Real Madrid had to win otherwise they would already be well behind in the standings. In the seventh minute, Kylian Mbappé saw his left-footed shot hit the post.

A few moments later, the captain of the France team this time came up against Péter Gulacsi (21st). The Madrid center forward and his teammates returned to the locker room under the Bernabéu bronca.

In the second half, the whistles continued to rain due to the lack of intensity provided by the Merengue club. Shortly after the hour mark, Yan Diomandé opened the scoring with a cross shot from the right. Although the flag was raised, the Ivorian international’s first goal since his big transfer was finally validated by the VAR (1-0, 63rd).

Vinicius, the backcombing

Vinicius, who entered at the start of the second half, then made the break. At least he thought so. Because its production was canceled for a pulling of Nathan-Dylan Saliba’s hair. Which led to the expulsion of the Brazilian immediately (73rd). Despite this numerical inferiority and a new miss from Kylian Mbappé (78th), the White House retained its advantage until the final whistle.

Following this narrow victory, Real Madrid temporarily moved up to third place in the standings, with 18 points. That is to say six units behind its Catalan rival. On Tuesday, José Mourinho’s men will travel to Italy to face AS Roma, on the second day of the Champions League league phase.
