The match between Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Bilbao was suspended after new incidents in the stands. The match descended into chaos when Rayo supporters threw paper planes containing plastic balls onto the pitch. Despite a first interruption and a warning from referee Sánchez Martínez, the projectiles were thrown again, forcing the players to return to the locker room.
The tension is particularly linked to the protest of some of the supporters towards the president of Rayo, whose departure they are demanding. “It’s a complete disaster. They can give us victory, but that’s the only way to show that we want this man to leave the club.”explained one of them. The Rayo captains attempted to address the supporters in the south stand, while the referee warned that any further throws would result in an indefinite suspension. The resumption of the meeting remains uncertain after these new excesses.
