Lyon recently attempted to shop into Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis squad, looking for a new defensive midfielder.
Guido Rodriguez was the main target of the Rhone club. The Argentinian, a member of last year’s world champion squad, is entering the final year of his contract and, for now, a renewal is not on the agenda.
Lyon sought to take advantage of this situation by submitting a bid of €12m (plus €3m in add-ons). But Betis refused.
The Lyon leaders have now turned their attention to another Betis star. According to MDthey are interested in Paul Akouokou, who does not seem to be part of Pellegrini’s plans for the future.
Real Betis are ready to let Akouokou go this week, and the Ivorian would prefer to move to France as that’s where his family currently resides. Under these conditions, it is more than likely that an agreement will be finalized in the coming days.
