Penultimate in Ligue 1, OM returns to the championship on Sunday with a trip to Troyes. Bruno Genesio spoke about the situation this Friday.

Even if they have denied it since their departure, Pablo Longoria and Medhi Benatia have left Olympique de Marseille in a very complicated financial situation. The management structure was reshuffled during the summer and Bruno Genesio was appointed to the bench. The latter had obviously not correctly judged the real situation of the club in which he arrived and after five days, the sporting results are alarming. From there to playing the maintenance? He replied.

Because if Marseille had achieved a real success against Strasbourg during the first round of the championship (4-0), this success was deceptive. Behind, the Phocéens have had four consecutive losses, respectively against Monaco (2-0), Paris FC (2-3), Rennes (1-0) and PSG (1-2). Before facing Troyes, sixteenth and one point ahead of them in the standings, OM are on alert.

Present at a press conference this Friday, Bruno Genesio was questioned about this famous maintenance. Does he think we should see things like that for Marseille this season? “No, I wouldn’t say ‘to ensure maintenance’ but to be able to play without this ulterior motive of saying ‘ranking, four defeats in a row’, because that’s not very good for the general working atmosphere (…). Help the team progress, because that’s my job. For me, ensuring the essentials comes first. And then we know that by doing that, the results will improve and we will have a slightly lighter atmosphere. »

Bruno Genesio wants to plan for the medium term

Then the Marseille coach was questioned about the medium-term vision of his leaders for OM. “It’s not me who should be asked this question (smile). I know where I want to go with OM. If I came, it’s because I have ambition (…). There is simply a situation that is difficult and everyone knows it. There are two important things: managing urgency when there are difficult or crisis moments. (…) And after that, what do we do? What is the plan for the future years of OM, with whom, how, with what? »

And to conclude. “No one knows if I will still be here in one, two, three years or in six months. But my job is also to have a medium-term vision for the club. We are here for the club. We pass, but what trace will we leave behind us? (…) The sunny days are coming, but above all, what do we want to do? »
